Nigeria government efforts to promote the production of natural rubber

Nigeria is the world's major natural rubber producing countries, in the early 1940s on the establishment of a large-scale rubber plantations, the planting area of early rising, but as the world's leading oil producer and exporter, with oil prices rising, Nigeria's dwindling acreage Jiao Yuan. So far, Nigeria's natural rubber plantation area of about 145,000 hectares in 2005 to produce 142,000 tons. Nigeria's annual consumption of natural rubber relatively stable at around 16,000 tons, synthetic rubber consumption of about 5,000 tons per year.

Nigeria in order to promote natural rubber cultivation industry, Nigeria has set up a the end of last year aimed at promoting rubber production, use and export of the Presidential Commission to promote the realization of the country in 2022 before the rubber output to reach 400,000 tons.

According to the statement issued by the Office of the President of Nigeria, President Olusegun Obasanjo at the launching ceremony of request by the Minister of Agriculture in command of this committee as soon as possible to come up with specific development strategies, including how to encourage inward investment. Obasanjo also revealed that to promote rubber production, the Government of Nigeria to the rubber tree seedlings will be planted to provide subsidies for the end of 2006 so that the rubber plantation area of the country reached 200,000 hectares, 12 years later, on this basis to double.

International Rubber Study Group recently announced that the Government of Nigeria has become a full member of the International Rubber Study Group.
